Welcome to my blog, Imogen. Have you always wanted to be a writer?
Literally for as long as I can remember! When I was in primary school, I wrote a book about a cat called Mog – I’ll never forget the assembly when the headmaster announced that there was an author in to see us today, then he said my name! My story was read to the entire school and placed in the school library; it’s still one of my proudest moments.
What do you like writing most?
Of course, I can’t get enough of romance, but I also love to write about friendships and family dynamics.
Are you a pantster or a plotter?
A bit of both, I always have an idea of where the story is going, but sometimes things change direction along the way. At times, it feels like my characters are writing the story, not me!
Is your writing ever inspired by your family or real life incidents?
Sometimes! For instance, quirky Granny Ethel in the Sunny Shore Bay stories is partially inspired by my mum, who has brightly coloured hair and used to add nettle water in our juice as kids for our health. Can’t say that I loved the taste, much like everyone else in Sunny Shore Bay whenever Ethel tries to get them to drink her dreadful nettle tea!
What are you writing at the moment?
A new Sunny Shore Bay romance – stay tuned!
What are your hobbies?
I take ballet classes, and I love to paint.
What advice would you give to other writers?
Read, read and read some more! It’s all very well having a fab idea for a story, but you need to learn how to structure one, and the best way to do that is by reading widely. Read in your chosen genre, read outside of it, read as much as you can!
