EXTRACT:
Something fleeting caught her eye in the side mirror. The hairs on the back of her neck and arms stood on end. The spiders raced all over her body. When she looked more closely there was nothing to see. The rain made visibility out of the windows distorted. Then the creepiest thought came to her – what if Jake was already here? Stalking her? It would explain the car and why she was sure it had moved closer. She leaned over the passenger seat, pressing her face against the glass to get a clearer view, but the rain distorted everything. The rain, coming down so hard made it impossible to be sure. Shadows played in the car park as the trees along the edge swayed in the wind.
As she bent down to check her phone, her door was wrenched open and she was dragged out by her collar. At first, she thought she was being robbed it all happened so quickly.
She twisted in agony as she hit the tarmac. Her head was jerked up by a strong hand clamped around her neck, then she stared into Jake’s raging face dripping with water. Directly under a street light, the reflection made him look evil. He wrapped his other hand in her hair pulling her up onto her knees. She cried out. Her scalp burned, her hip where she landed wouldn’t take her weight. She crumbled to the side. He forced her up. Fire burned in her leg. He held her up in place. Bending down, he got within inches from her face, let go of her hair and slapped her. She dropped to the ground and rolled over in agony. The rain pounded in her face, her mascara ran into her eyes.
