My guest today is debut romance author Ruth Kramer. Ruth is going to talk to us about her writing journey and her new book. So grab yourself a cuppa, get cosy and let’s get chatting to Ruth.

Bio:
Ruth loves romantic fiction, from witty romcom to swoon-worthy romance. A fascination that started all the way back with the love story between Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe. (In her opinion the best enemies-to-lovers romance ever, with Lizzie Bennet and Mr. Darcy a close second).
With all this reading, it’s a small wonder she eventually started writing her own stories. And as a true Anne of Green Gables fangirl, she made sure Delia, the heroine of her first novel, was a redhead.
Ruth is a graphic designer by trade and thrilled to the marrow of her bones that she got to design her own book cover. She lived in Ireland for ten years, where she caught her love for all things Hibernian. Ruth is a member of the Romantic Novelists’ Association.
Welcome to my blog, Ruth. And congratulations on the publication of your debut novel. Can you tell us about your writing journey.
Like most writers I’ve always been a voracious reader eager to immerse myself in fictional worlds. However, I didn’t start writing until the year I turned forty. Drawing and painting were my preferred creative outlets, but stories insisted on popping into my head until they left me no choice but to grab my laptop to write them down.
During a lucky internet search, I discovered the Romantic Novelists’ Association and their brilliant New Writers’ Scheme. I joined as soon as I could and learned all the skills needed to finally get my novel published. Full disclosure: My debut is manuscript number three, the other two are resting peacefully in the drawer.
Editing the first draft is my favorite stage of writing a novel; the story is there and now is the time to dig deep, to bring out the emotion and to pump some lifeblood into those made-up characters. Shaping and re-shaping the manuscript with editor and publisher, if it works well, can turn into a satisfying act of co-creation. The final version is richer for having been shared with beta readers, critique partners and industry professionals.
My love for drawing, illustrating and painting is undimmed, and I was thrilled that my publisher, The Champagne Book Group, allowed me to design my own book cover. Properly bitten by the writing bug, I’ll keep dreaming up romantic stories that capture my interest and hopefully delight my readers.
What a wonderful achievement to not only have your book published, but to design the cover too. Congratulations Ruth. Wishing you lots of success with this book and your future writing.

Some people are made for love, and some must learn that they are.
Delia, a high-flying geneticist and lecturer at Renwood University in Northern England, only has one goal: to get the permanent position she’s been working toward for years. Once that’s secured, she’s ready to execute step two of her life plan: to have a baby with the help of a sperm donor. Love and marriage are not for her, and the best solution is to go it alone. It’s the sensible person’s choice, obviously.
Enter Gabriel. He’s an earl, but unfortunately so skint, he may be about to lose his ancestral home. He offers to become Delia’s sperm donor, and she couldn’t be more delighted, because he’s hot, kind, and most importantly, has a great genetic profile. Together, they cook up a plan to become co-parents which only allows for platonic feelings of friendship. And a plan is there to be followed to the letter, right?
But since life is more complicated than the best laid plans, things slowly spiral out of control when Gabriel loses his heart, and Delia has to decide whether to risk hers.
